The Patriots for Europe Group rejects illegal political attacks within the European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control
Brussels, 03/09/2025 - Patriots for Europe strongly condemns the latest political maneuver by the grand coalition of the left, the EPP, and the liberals in the European Parliament, aimed at discrediting our group, Patriots for Europe.
Following our historic success in last year's European elections and the formation of the Patriots for Europe group, the third largest political force in the European Parliament, the establishment has repeatedly sought to weaken us. After illegally depriving us of our positions in Parliament and in the committees, they are now stepping up their attacks by voting tomorrow on an opinion to the European Parliament Bureau within the CONT Committee.
The European Parliament's financial administration is attempting to hold the Patriots responsible for alleged irregularities by the dissolved Identity and Democracy (ID) group, a separate legal entity, even though the European Parliament's Bureau has previously approved all of ID's financial reports. “The absurd claim that the Patriots are the legal successors to the ID group is baseless and politically motivated,” commented MEP Tamás Deutsch, CONT coordinator for the Patriots for Europe group.
This process is a double scandal, revealing that these checks are only carried out when a group is dissolved, and that the two main political groups with the largest budgets, the Socialists (EUR 68.553.054,00)and the European People's Party (EUR 85.276.205,00), are simply not subject to any control by the European Parliament.
In the interests of genuine and fair transparency in the use of European taxpayers' money, the Patriots for Europe group is therefore calling for all groups to be treated equally and without discrimination through regular, thorough financial checks, and is demanding public access to the calls for tenders issued by the various groups in the European Parliament since 2019, so that everyone can verify the procedures followed by each group and the identity of the service providers selected. This is a matter of the seriousness and reputation of the European Parliament, whose slogan displayed on its buildings is “democracy in action.”
Political debates must take place in the appropriate forums and not be hidden behind administrative manipulations. “We categorically reject this procedure and will use all legal means at our disposal to defend our rights. Patriots for Europe will not be silenced and will continue to fight for the millions of Europeans they represent,” added MEP Deutsch.
