Stop the Bureaucratic Spiral - Patriots Call for Clear Simplification Beyond the Omnibus Patch

Brussels 28/03/2025 - Patriots for Europe make it clear that postponement is not a solution—it’s a smokescreen. The European Commission’s Omnibus proposal to delay and slightly modify the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) comes less than a year after their adoption. This sudden reversal confirms what we have said all along: these rules were rushed, ill-conceived, and completely out of touch with the reality faced by European businesses.

Pushing back deadlines by two years and tweaking reporting obligations does not fix the problem. It merely extends the damage—especially for our farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses already burdened by overregulation. The result is more legal uncertainty and less competitiveness at a time when Europe should be doing everything to strengthen its economy.

This is not an isolated case. The same pattern of confusion and policy reversals can be seen in the Green Deal and other Commission initiatives. Brussels is proving itself unreliable and out of control.

We also reject the hypocrisy of the EPP, who not long ago voted in favor of these very directives. Now they claim to oppose them. Their U-turn is not about protecting businesses—it’s about saving face. Europeans are tired of this political theatre.

The CSRD and CSDDD are bureaucratic traps that weaken our industry and threaten our global position. Patriots for Europe will support any real effort to cut red tape and bring back economic common sense—but half-measures and delays are not enough.
