Patriots for Europe: “The 2040 Climate Law Isn’t A Plan — It’s A Disaster”

Brussels, 13/11/2025 - Patriots for Europe strongly denounce the European Parliament’s decision to approve a new binding 2040 climate target, a move that we consider an ideological illusion that threatens European industry, jobs and security. Instead of addressing Europe’s economic crisis, exploding energy bills and geopolitical instability, the Parliament has chosen to double down on climate fantasies that no other major global power is pursuing.

Despite our efforts to reject and suspend the proposal entirely, EPP and Renew once again aligned with the left-green bloc, enabling a course that accelerates deindustrialisation while delivering negligible climate benefits. The final result — 379 votes in favour, 248 against, 10 abstentions — confirms how far the Brussels mainstream has drifted from economic reality.

Patriots for Europe further warn that the upcoming ETS2 system, even if postponed, will inevitably raise oil and gas prices for households and SMEs across Europe. This is yet another example of Brussels pushing costly ideological measures onto ordinary citizens while pretending to deliver climate progress.

Following the vote, Patriots’ rapporteur Ondřej Knotek reacted sharply, warning that “the 2040 Climate Law isn’t a plan — it’s a disaster. It is another fantasy from the same people who made our energy bills explode and our factories close. Europe needs jobs, industry and security — not ideology. Patriots for Europe stand for reality, not madness.”

He also condemned the political coalition behind the outcome: “EPP and liberal-left-green ideologists voted together for the economic destruction of the EU while not helping the climate.”

Patriots for Europe will keep fighting for a pragmatic climate policy that protects Europe’s economy and strategic autonomy — not one that turns the continent into an industrial museum.
