Patriots for Europe Secure a Major Victory to Roll Back The Green Deal Straitjacket
Brussels, 13/11/2025 - The Patriots for Europe group has achieved a significant success in today’s European Parliament vote on the Omnibus I Directive, overturning the old coalition majority and opening the path to replacing the Green Deal with a competitiveness-driven agenda.
For the first time, the so-called cordon sanitaire has been broken in a legislative vote. A new majority — uniting Patriots for Europe, ECR, ESN and the EPP — has prevailed in favour of a more proportionate, growth-oriented approach that relieves European companies of costly and unnecessary constraints.
A first step toward repealing harmful Green Deal rules
The vote substantially amends the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) — two pillars of the Green Deal that have imposed heavy compliance costs, legal uncertainty, and ideological conditionality on Europe’s productive sectors.
Under the new text, small and medium-sized enterprises are fully exempted, while climate transition plans and mandatory business suspensions are deleted. The new approach also ends the Commission’s centralised penalty regime and restores democratic control to Member States.
“This vote brings the debate back to realism,” said Pascale Piera, MEP and rapporteur for the Patriots for Europe. “For too long, the Green Deal has punished our industries, farmers, and workers in the name of ideology. Our goal remains clear: to repeal this framework entirely and replace it with policies that strengthen competitiveness, energy security, and technological leadership.”
Another policy is possible
After months of work, the Patriots for Europe have succeeded in reopening a legislative process that the establishment bloc (EPP, Renew, S&D and The Greens) sought to close. Thanks to our determination and our capacity to build an
alternative majority, Europe is once again moving toward restoring its economic sovereignty and industrial base.
This outcome demonstrates that a different course for the EU is not only possible but already taking shape: one based on a productive economy, responsible environmental policy, and the freedom of Member States to decide how best to achieve it.
Commitment to a new economic direction
The Patriots for Europe will continue to work for the full repeal of the Green Deal and for a comprehensive pro-growth reform agenda that restores competitiveness and investment across the Union.
Today’s result is a concrete step in that direction — a victory for reason, for workers, and for Europe’s capacity to produce and prosper again.
