Patriots for Europe Reject Politically Motivated Attacks in the European Parliament

Brussels 15/07/2025 - The Patriots for Europe Group firmly rejects the politically motivated and unfounded accusations that have started by left-wing Members of the European Parliament during last week’s plenary debate. The plenary debate, initiated by the left, focused on the dissolved Identity and Democracy (ID) Group but falsely sought to implicate the Patriots for Europe.

Tamás Deutsch, the Group’s Coordinator in the Committee on Budgetary Control, stated:

“The attempt to link the Patriots for Europe Group to the alleged financial or legal responsibilities of the former ID Group is entirely unacceptable. Financial oversight must be conducted objectively and in full accordance with the European Parliament’s rules – not selectively applied for political purposes. Such actions undermine the integrity of the Parliament and the trust of European citizens.”

The Patriots for Europe Group is not a continuation of the former ID Group and rejects any such allegations.

• The Patriots Group was founded on the initiative of Fidesz, ANO, and FPÖ, with only FPÖ having previously been affiliated with the ID Group.

• Of the 14 current Patriots delegations, only five were formerly part of the ID Group.

• Of the 85 current members of the Patriots Group, only 21 were members of the former ID Group.

• Furthermore, the suggestion that the formation of a new group was motivated by an attempt to evade financial liability is unfounded. In fact, the former ID Group has reimbursed over €2.6 million—a clear demonstration of responsibility, not evasion.

“This is a clear political maneuver to fabricate accusations and pressure our Group, which represents millions of Europeans. Their goal is clear: they want to use political and financial constraints to eliminate the Patriots from the political arena. Political debates should be grounded in facts and conducted through transparent, democratic discourse—not through administrative manipulation. The use of bureaucratic instruments to discredit or dismantle political opponents is reminiscent of practices common in totalitarian regimes. We will not remain silent and are prepared to use all legal means to defend our integrity,” Deutsch added.
