Patriots for Europe Calls on MEPs opposed to Mercosur to Support Motion of Censure Against Von der Leyen

Strasbourg, 21/01/2026 - Patriots for Europe is calling on all political groups and MEPs opposed to the EU-Mercosur agreement to support our motion of censure against Commission President Ursula von der Leyen when the European Parliament votes tomorrow.

The Commission President's handling of Mercosur threatens Europe's agricultural sector, undermines food security, and creates dependency on third countries for basic sustenance. At a moment when Europe needs strength and negotiating capacity on the world stage, von der Leyen has weakened our position.

She split the agreement to bypass national parliaments and is forcing through implementation without proper European Parliament scrutiny—an assault on democratic accountability that Patriots for Europe will not accept.

We call on all groups and MEPs who oppose the EU-Mercosur deal to join us in holding the Commission President accountable.
