Patriots demand a Debate on the Ukrainian Corruption Allegations and EU Funding Risks

Brussels, 19/11/2025 - On behalf of our Group, we requested a debate on recent high-level corruption cases in Ukraine and the possible misuse of EU funds to be added to the next plenary agenda. Unfortunately, the left-liberal-EPP majority voted this down at today’s Conference of Presidents (CoP). The alleged $100 million Energoatom kickback scheme, involving senior Ukrainian officials, raises serious questions about transparency and the safety of European taxpayers’ money — yet this majority seems more focused on political attacks against democratically elected governments than on protecting the European people’s money.

This debate is even more urgent now that Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is asking Member States for an extra €135 billion over the next two years to finance Ukraine and the war — an amount close to three-quarters of the EU’s entire annual budget. This money does not exist today and would require another joint EU loan, pushing the debt burden onto future generations.

It is unacceptable to launch such massive financial commitments while corruption concerns remain unresolved. Therefore, a plenary debate would have been essential to defend Europe’s financial integrity, ensure accountability, and safeguard Europe’s and the European people’s long-term interests.
