Open the Gates or Pay the Fine: The EU’s New Migration Deal - Statement by Patriots of Europe on the Entry into Application of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum

Brussels, 12/06/2026 - The peoples of Europe were never asked whether they wanted the immigration model imposed on them over the past decade by the Brussels mainstream, yet they are the ones who must live with its consequences. The Pact that enters into force today is sold as a correction of that model. It corrects nothing.

It is flawed at its foundation, and no amount of tweaking has changed that. Presented by the European Commission and endorsed by the same mainstream left-liberal political forces that created the migration crisis in the first place, this Pact is little more than a paper tiger: a bureaucratic exercise designed to give the appearance of control while preserving the very system that has failed Europe for years.

The Pact does not stop illegal migration at Europe's external borders. It administers it. It revives the same discredited quotas, obliging every member state to take its share of immigrants or pay for refusing to process thousands of asylum claims a year, and to build immigrant camps on its own territory, all under threat of fines.

This is a regime of punishment aimed at the nations that try to defend themselves. Where real barriers have successfully stopped illegal crossings, the Pact would force them open again, allowing claims to be filed on national soil and illegal migrants to be let in. That is not control. It is an open invitation, and it will not ease the pressure on Europe; it will multiply it.

The European Union's leadership and the establishment parties (EPP, S&D, Renew, Greens, The Left) behind this pact ask Europeans to believe that a crisis created by years of ideological blindness can be solved through more bureaucracy, more redistribution, and more legal pathways into the continent. At a time of immense pressure from the South, such illusions are dangerous. Only firmness can protect the peoples of Europe.

Patriots for Europe rejects a Pact that betrays the interests of the European nations and the normal functioning of democracy. The defence of a country's borders is not a crime to be fined. It is the first duty of any state worthy of the name.
