No Interference in Hungary’s Elections: Only Hungarians Have the Right to Decide Their Future

Brussels, 11/04/2026 - Recent developments and the growing external pressure surrounding Hungary’s upcoming elections are deeply concerning. Left-liberal MEPs are constantly attacking Hungary and now called on the European Commission to take further steps even before the elections in an EU Member State take place. This is unacceptable and risks directly interfering in a country’s democratic process. This reflects a broader and deeply troubling political trend in which doubts about electoral integrity are raised in advance and used as a political tool. We have seen and experienced similar attempts before—through politically motivated activist networks and so-called NGOs, as well as through coordinated pressure and political blackmail. The Hungarian people alone have the sovereign right to decide their future. Any attempt to influence or undermine a Member State’s electoral process must be firmly rejected.
