Capital Markets have to provide equal opportunities for all European citizens, companies and Member States
Brussels 19/03/2025 - The Draghi and Letta reports gave a crystal clear diagnosis: Europe desperately needs investments. In reality hundreds of billions of European savings are moving to the US capital market due to the unfriendly business environments Brussels has created. At the same time, European companies, especially SMEs, are also relocating overseas in the hope of easier access to finance.
We have to act now. In order to boost our economy and competitiveness, the EU has to mobilize private capital and ease the investment hunger which amounts up to €800 billion annually. Therefore, we, the Patriots for Europe Group expects the Commission to:
-
Create – in line with the Budapest Declaration on the New European Competitiveness Deal - more integrated capital markets that are equally accessible to all citizens and businesses, in particular to SMEs and start-ups.
-
Provide the same opportunities to all Member States regardless of their size, current level of capital market development or economic situation.
-
Follow the bottom-up approach when building the Savings and Investment Union.
-
Avoid rushing into reckless stealing of national supervisory competences when harmonising supervisory activities.
-
Respect taxation competences of Member States and prevent distortion on the Single Market when developing new EU level investment products.
We, Patriots, will fight for European people, companies and competitiveness.
