Another Delay: EU Car Sector Left in the Lurch

Brussels 27/03/2025 - The Patriots for Europe group strongly condemns the continued postponement of the European Parliament’s resolution on the automotive industry. The text, tabled by Patriots MEPs, was meant to provide a clear and pragmatic roadmap for the future of European car manufacturing and aimed to correct what the Commission failed to deliver: a bold, sovereign strategy that protects jobs, promotes innovation, and prioritises European industry over ideology.

“The European Commission has turned environmental ambition into economic sabotage,” said Czech MEP and Patriots VP Klára Dostálová. “This delay is not administrative – it’s a calculated move to avoid responsibility while European workers are paying the price.”

The resolution has been stalled for months, as the EPP and the groups on the left, under pressure from the Commission and its President, refuse to confront the harmful reality of current emissions rules. These regulations threaten millions of jobs and impose over €17 billion in CO₂ penalties on manufacturers – while competitors outside Europe benefit from our self-inflicted wounds.

“The current framework is a death sentence for Europe’s car industry,” added Dostálová. “Our manufacturers are drowning in unrealistic targets. Brussels is asleep at the wheel.”

The Patriots for Europe demand immediate action and a dramatic change in direction. Europe needs an industrial policy based on realism, not ideological dogma.
